Track record for Power Jam in Pirate’s Bounty
Monday | September 05, 2016
Kaleem Shah’s homebred 4-year-old Power Jam lived up to his name in his first stakes start on Monday, scoring by 1 1/2-lengths in the Pirate’s Bounty S. at Del Mar and breaking the 5 ½ furlong track record set by Ack Ack in 1970.
Sent off the 7-5 favorite, Power Jam tussled with Kaabraaj until the top of the lane, when he began to pull away under Stewart Elliott to stop the timer in 1:02.10, besting the old mark of 1:02 1/5.
The Pirate’s Bounty was the stakes debut for Power Jam, who won both a maiden and allowance race at Santa Anita Park. The son of Concord Point-Musical Rhythm is now 3-1-0 in five starts and has earned $130,240.
