Shah & Baffert team up to purchase Vallenzeri

Trainer Bob Baffert, acting on behalf of Kaleem Shah, purchased famed juvenile Vallenzeri for $1.9 million early in the opening session of the Keeneland sale of 2-year-olds in training April 6. The chestnut colt turned out to easily be the sale topper.



By Horse of the Year A.P. Indy and the first foal out of Horse of the Year Azeri, Vallenzeri set a world Thoroughbred auction record when he was a $7.7-million buy-back at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling auction.



“He’s by a champion and out of a champion, and he’s a good-looking horse,” said Baffert. “He’s very well conformed. He’s got a fluid way of moving, and all that sort of takes a lot of the guesswork out of it. You’re talking about a lot of years in breeding to get a horse like this.”
