Richard’s Kid wins San Antonio (G2), Dubai next

Grade 1 winner Richard’s Kid made good preparation for next month’s $10 million Dubai World Cup (G1) when the 5-year-old son of Lemon Drop Kid rallied up the rail from last to get his head in front at the wire of the $150,000 San Antonio H. Feb. 7 at Santa Anita.

It marked his second graded stakes win since joining the Baffert barn. He also captured the Pacific Classic (G1) last summer at Del Mar, and the bay horse now boasts career earnings of $891,370 for owner Zabeel Racing International, Corp., which recently acquired Richard’s Kid after the Breeders’ Cup in November.

Richard’s Kid, with Garrett Gomez aboard, earned a 100 Beyer in Sunday’s San Antonio, using his patented late rally to pass the entire field in the stretch. The final time for 1 1/8 miles was 1:49.05 over the local synthetic surface. He’ll now ship overseas to the new Meydan Racecourse for next month’s richest race in the world – the prestigious Dubai World Cup – and its newly-boosted $10-million purse.
