Quality Response coasts in Phone Chatter S.

Friday | September 20, 2019

Quality Response, a dominating debut winner in a Sept. 1 Del Mar maiden special weight, backed up that performance with another emphatic score in the Sept. 19 Phone Chatter S. at Los Alamitos, rolling by 5 1/2-lengths.

Bob Baffert trains the daughter of Quality Road for long-time clients Karl Watson, Mike Pegram and Paul Weitman. The 2-year-old filly has earned $80,100 in her two wins and is set for bigger races in the future.

Despite a extremely wide trip after getting floated out into the center of the track entering the turn, Quality Response showed her class by rolling to the lead in upper stretch and drawing away nicely to win as much the best.

“First time out (at Del Mar) I didn’t know if she was completely ready, said Baffert. “I was hoping she would run like she did today. [Jockey] Joe [Talamo] rode her with a lot of confidence. It’s going to keep getting tougher and tougher as she goes along, but she’s shown the quality is there and she’s very well bred.”

The winner hails from the family of European champion Rainbow View (Dynaformer) and MGSW & MGISP sire E Dubai (Mr. Prospector). Quality Response is the most recent foal out of Argue (pedigree notes from the TDN).
