Post 7 for Collected in Preakness 141
Bob Baffert will shoot for his seventh Preakness (G1) victory on Saturday when he sends Collected out in the 141st running of the second leg of the Triple Crown.
With last year’s historic win by American Pharoah now a fond memory, Baffert will now try to knock off unbeaten Kentucky Derby (G1) winner Nyquist on Saturday.
“It’s going to be a step up for him,” Baffert said of Collected. “He’s fast and there are a lot of fast horses in there. We never thought about the (Kentucky) Derby with him. We thought about the Preakness, the shorter one. The owners get excited. He’s the kind of horse that brings it every time. He’s handy. He’s quick.”
Collected, who drew post 7 in the field of 11 3-year-olds, will be ridden by Javier Castellano, who guided the son of City Zip to a four-length victory in the Lexington S. (G3) at Keeneland.
Owned by Speedway Stable, Collected has won four of his six starts, including wins in the Sham S. (G3) and the $415,000 Sunland Festival of Racing S.
Baffert’s six Preakness wins ranks only behind 19th century trainer R. Wyndham Walden, with seven.
