Nysos caps terrific 2025 with Laffit Pincay S. (G2) win
Nysos edged stablemate Nevada Beach in a thrilling renewal of the Laffit Pincay S. (G2) Sunday at Santa Anita Park to wrap up a brilliant year for the 4-year-old Bob Baffert trainee.
Nysos found the winner’s circle in four of five starts this year: Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1), San Diego H. (G2) and Triple Bend S. (G3) in addition to Sunday’s victory.
After an even break, Nysos, on the rail, and Nevada Beach settled into third and fourth respectively, just behind the leaders. They would remain side by side for the rest of the trip. Both tipped out off the fence with three furlongs to go and went around the early leaders as a team. They were nearly inseparable down the stretch, with Nysos winning by a short head in 1:42.36 for the 1 1/16-miles on a fast track.
“Nysos, he just knows where the wire is,” said Baffert. “Flavien [Prat] rode him well. I got two great rides and two good horses.”
Now 7-1-0 in eight lifetime starts, Nysos has banked $1,238,500 for owners Baoma Corp., Mrs John Magnier, Derrick Smith, and Michael Tabor.
“We’ll see how they come out of this race in regards to possibly going to Saudi [for the Feb. 14 G1 Saudi Cup],” Baffert said. “The Breeders’ Cup was a disaster for Nevada Beach. He showed today, and so did Nysos, that they were both tough customers.”
