Marley’s Freedom scores repeat in Great Lady M. (G2)

Marley’s Freedom added a second win in the $200,000 Great Lady M. Stakes at Los Alamitos on Saturday, giving the 5-year-old a total of six graded stakes wins and Bob Baffert three wins in the six runnings of the stake at its current location. The Great Lady M was previously held at Hollywood Park.

A heavy favorite in the field of six, Marley’s Freedom was under a stout hold by jockey Drayden Van Dyke until unleashing his bid with a quarter-mile to run. She quickly took over and won comfortably by 1 3/4-lengths in 1:15.33 for the 6 1/2-furlongs.

“We were hoping she would run like that,” said Baffert. “When [Van Dyke] asked her to go he had a lot of horse. I like coming here. Los Alamitos has a great surface and it is fair. Horses can win on the lead or from off the pace.”

Baffert added that Marley’s Freedom would probably go to Saratoga as a prep for the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) to be held at Santa Anita Park in November.

Owned by Cicero Farms, Marley’s Freedom is now 9-4-0 in 18 starts and has earned $1,233,935.
