Litmus Test leads Baffert sweep of the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2)
Litmus Test topped a 1-2-3 finish for the Bob Baffert stable in Saturday’s Los Alamitos Futurity (G2), with the winner topping Blacksmith by 1 ¼-lengths, while pacesetter Provenance settled for a clear third.
Litmus Test had the clear experience advantage over his stablemates, with a trio of Grade 1 starts under his belt. After a fairly relaxed start, Litmus Test still found himself in second around the first turn and onto the backstretch. Provenance led by a length after a half-mile, with Litmus Test halving that margin after six furlongs.
Provenance made his way to the lead around the final bend, then after tussling with Provenance for a furlong, began to pull clear, with Blacksmith running on nicely late to pick up the place spot.
“He was in a good spot—he looked like he was relaxed,” Baffert said of the winner. “You could tell down the backside he had control of the race. He’s still a little green, but Juan was just telling me that the further the better for him. He loved this track—he got over it really well and just kept on going.”
Baffert trains Litmus Test for the partnership of SF Racing, Starlight Racing, Madaket Stables, Stonestreet Stables, Dianne Bashor, Determined Stables, Golconda Stable, Waves Edge Capital, and Catherine Donovan.
In addition to giving Baffert his record 15th Futurity winner, with the win Litmus Test earned 10 qualifying points on the Road to the 2026 Kentucky Derby, and now has a total of 19.
