Improbable kicks off BC weekend for Baffert
Bob Baffert could have a future star in the 2-year-old colt Improbable, who is 2-for-2 following his 7 1/4-length romp in Friday’s $100,000 Street Sense S. at Churchill Downs [WATCH RACE].
The Bob Baffert trainee kicked off a Friday double for the Hall of Famer, who won the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile with Game Winner.
But it was Improbable who made the early statement. After being bottled up behind horses for the first half-mile, the chestnut colt moved three-wide on the turn, rolled past Trophy Chaser and flew through the stretch to finish the mile in 1:35.61 on a fast main track.
“I knew I’d be just behind some of the early pace setters,” jockey Drayden Van Dyke said. “I tracked the one that I thought was the better and when the hole opened up right after we passed the big (video) board I moved him outside. He was very professional throughout the entire race.”
Improbable, owned by WinStar Farm, China Horse Club and SF Racing, broke his maiden in his Sept. 29 debut at Santa Anita Park and has now earned $89,520.
