Hoppertuntity surgers late to win Brookynn Inv. (G2)

Hopperturnity found his best stride in the final furlong to win the $400,000 Brooklyn Inv. (G2) Saturday at Belmont Park, an incredible start to a terrific day when Bob Baffert, who became the second trainer in history to win the Triple Crown when Justify won the Belmont S. (G1) later in the afternoon.

Hoppertunity got his chance to shine earlier in the day in the 1 1/2-mile Brooklyn with a perfect ride from Flavien Prat. Well off the pace in the first mile, Hoppertunity moved quickly up the inside on the far turn, and surged to the lead in the final furlong en route to a 2 1/4-length win over War Story.

“He won a grade 1 in the 2016 Jockey Club Gold Cup and now comes back two years later to win this race,” said winning trainer. “He likes it here. If you manage him the right way and take your time with him, he’s good.”  

Hoppertunity is one of the most accomplished campaigners of the the decade, racking up a record of 9-7-5 in 32 starts and earning $4.646,625 for Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman. Hoppertunity has won or placed in 18 graded stakes over his illustrious career.
