Heck Yeah back to winning ways in Echo Eddie S.

Saturday | April 07, 2018

Heck Yeah chalked up his third career stakes win in just five starts on Saturday when he took the $200,000 Echo Eddie S. at Santa Anita Park by 2 1/4-lengths.

Heck Yeah has been very versatile in his young career, winning stakes sprinting on the turf, going two turns on the main track, and now sprinting on the main track after Saturday’s win.

Running without blinkers for the first time, Heck Yeah was just off the leader Rewired for the first quarter-mile, then took over the lead and gradually widened his margin the rest of the way, ultimately stopping the timer in 1:17.13 for the 6 1/2-furlongs.

“This never gets old I can tell you that. Bob’s (trainer Bob Baffert) done a great job with him and taking the blinkers off today made a big difference. You could see he was more relaxed and he finished better,” said Michael Pageler, co-owner and breeder.

Robert Baedeker and Dr. Michael Sigband are Heck Yeah’s other owners. Winner of the Cal Cup Derby and Cal Cup Turf Sprint earlier this year, Heck Yeah has now won four of five starts and earned $308,000.
