Gabby’s Golden Gal wires Grade 1 Acorn
The Baffert-trained Gabby’s Golden Gal captured her first career Grade 1 victory on June 6th, going gate-to-wire in the $300,000 Acorn S. (G1) for 3-year-old fillies on the Belmont Stakes card.
Ridden by Javier Castellano, the speedy filly by Medaglia d’Oro won by 1 ¾ lengths on the line after leading every step of the way in the seven-furlong event, stopping the clock in 1:34.79 over a fast track. The performance earned her a career high 96 Beyer Speed Figure.
Gabby’s Golden Gal improved her career earnings to $347,905 for owner and breeder Arnold Zetcher, who was present in New York for his filly’s big win.
“She’s not real big but she puts everything into it,” said Zetcher. “Bob calls her a little keg of dynamite. When we bred her, at the time, we thought Medaglia d’Oro had good potential, and the dam, Gabriellina Giof, was our first winner.”
Gabby’s Golden Gal has now won three of six starts and collected her first graded stakes win and second overall stakes triumph. In March, she won the Sunland Park Oaks by 13 lengths.
