Flor de La Mar impresses in Beverly Lewis S.

Saturday | September 07, 2019

Bob Baffert gave Flor de La Mar a cut back in distance in Saturday’s $75,000 Beverly Lewis S. and the 3-year-old Tiznow filly responded with a handy come-from-behind victory in the six-furlong affair.

Flor de La Mar, who finished second in the Santa Anita Oaks (G1) in April, is now 2-1-0 in six starts and has earned $173,015.

Last in the field of six for most of the first half-mile, Flor de La Mar began her rally on the far outside in upper stretch, slowing cutting into her deficit and passing Madame Vestal in the final sixteenth to win by a half-length in a hand ride under Mike Smith.

Flor de La Mar races for Godolphin and was bred by Don Alberto Corporation. Out of Grade 3 winner Sacristy, she sold for $500,000 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select Yearling sale in 2017.
