Fighting Mad much the best in Torrey Pines (G3)

Saturday | August 17, 2019

Fighting Mad toyed with her competition early in the one-mile Torrey Pines S. (G3) before drawing away with complete authority in the stretch to win by eight lengths.

The victory was the first stakes win for the 3-year-old Gary and Mary West filly, who has now won three of five starts and earned $168,008.

“We were hoping she could get a mile. I’ve been taking my time with her, but the way she’s been working and the way she’s showed she loved this track, we were hoping it would turn out the way it did,” said Bob Baffert following the win, his fifth career Torrey Pines victory.

Fighting Mad, a homebred, is a daughter of New Year’s Day, Baffert’s 2013 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner and the sire of the West’s top 3-year-old Maximum Security.
