Fast and Shiny gets first stakes win on Santa Anita turf
Fast and Shiny took the lead soon after the break and led the rest of the way to win the $100,000 Angels Flight S. on March 26 at Santa Anita Park.
This was the first stakes victory for the 3-year-old Bob Baffert trainee. She had placed in the Santa Ynez S. (G3) on the main track earlier in the meet.
Facing some highly-regarded challengers, Fast and Shiny repelled them all with a crafty ride from Abel Cedillo. After getting the lead she kept her foes at least a length behind her for nearly the entire trip. It was only in the last few strides that Teena Ella got within a half-length at the wire.
The final time for the 6 ½-furlongs on the firm downhill turf course was 1:13.19.
Fast and Shiny is owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman. Her record now stands at 3-0-1 in seven starts, with earnings of $193,700.
