Faithfully takes Santa Lucia in stakes debut

Sunday | June 04, 2017

Faithfully, a beautifully bred daughter of Smart Strike, handled her stakes debut with class, coming home a 2 1/2-length winner of the Santa Lucia S. Sunday at Santa Anita Park.

The winner got a well-timed ride from Rafael Bejarano, tracking in third in the two-path for the first six furlongs before launching her bid on the final turn. She took over the lead at the top of the stretch and comfortably held off Street Surrender to get the 1 1/16-miles in 1:43.17.

Faithfully upped her mark to 3-4-0 in eight starts and has banked $156,265 for owners John Sikura and Bruce Lunsford.

Faithfully is out of the Awesome Again mare Distinctively, who is a half-sister to the multiple Grade 1-winning millionaire Good Reward and Grade 2 winner Pure Prize. Their dam Heavenly Prize was an eight-time Grade 1-winning champion.
