Dream Tree bests Midnight Bisou in Desi Arnaz S.
Dream Tree has faced Midnight Bisou twice in her young career, and both times came away with nose victories over her foe.
The latest win was in Saturday’s $100,000 Desi Arnaz S. at Del Mar. Much like their maiden battle on Oct. 27, Dream Tree got the early lead, then dug in to hold off Midnight Bisou’s late charge.
“It isn’t that she pulls herself up. She just idles a bit in that last sixteenth,” winning rider Drayden Van Dyke explained. “She did it (in her debut and) she did it again today. … But she’s talented—no doubt.”
“She seems to be improving,” added Bob Baffert’s long-time assistant Jimmy Barnes. “We’ve got to work on the thrilling finishes there.”
Dream Tree is owned by Phoenix Thoroughbreds III. With two wins in as many starts, the 2-year-old daughter of Uncle Mo has won $90,000.
