Conveyance emerges as another top 3yo for Baffert

Conveyance joined stable star Lookin At Lucky as a 3-year-old to watch when the fast son of Indian Charlie jumped onto the Derby Trail with a front-running win in the $100,000 San Rafael S. (G3) Jan 16 at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, Conveyance broke sharp in the one-mile race – his first around two turns – dictating the tempo down the backstretch and into the far turn. He was challenged at the top of the stretch when the field became compact, but Gomez cut him loose straightening for home and the gray colt reached out nicely in the lane to be an easy winner at the wire.

The final margin was 1 ¾ lengths and Conveyance stopped the clock in 1:36.45 over the local synthetic track, earning him a 90 Beyer – and more importantly a passing grade in his two-turn debut.

“It was a nice effort, and he wasn’t blowing that hard when he came back,” said Baffert.

A $240,000 yearling purchase by Baffert, Conveyance is now a perfect 3-for-3 with earnings of $104,400 for owner Zabeel Racing International, Corp. The buzz quickly picked up on Conveyance when he got his breakout win in November at Hollywood Park, dusting allowance foes by seven lengths and earning a gaudy 99 Beyer. Before that, he broke his maiden at first asking at Santa Anita and has yet to be passed in any of his three starts.
