Cash Call wins Summertime Oaks (G3) in stakes debut

Cash Call made it three straight wins with her victory in the $100,000 Summertime Oaks (G3) Saturday at Santa Anita Park to give her trainer Bob Baffert a record fifth win in the race for 3-year-old fillies.
Inaugurated in 1946 as the Hollywood Oaks, it was run at that track until its closure in 2013.
Cash Call, who was making her first stakes start after winning a maiden and allowance races in the past six weeks, got a good stalking trip in Saturday’s 1 1/16-mile race. She sat three-wide in third while stablemate Howin set all the early fractions. With a quarter-mile to run, Cash Call and Howin locked in a battle for the win. They were on nearly even term until inside the final furlong, when Cash Call pulled clear to win by about a length in 1:43.62 on a fast track.
“She broke sharp, I was in a good spot,” said rider Juan Hernandez. “She was happy on the outside. She relaxed beautifully and was traveling so well. She was in a good rhythm just waiting for me to shake the reins and when I did, she picked it up and hit the wire first.”
Owned by the CSLR Racing Partners LLC, Cash Call is 3-1-1 in five starts and has earned $154,080.
