Baffert to saddle a trio in Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1)

Wednesday | November 01, 2023

With three of the 11 horses entered in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) Friday at Santa Anita Park, Bob Baffert three solid chances to win the race a record seventh time.

Prince of Monaco and Muth solid resumes that include Grade 1 wins into Friday’s 1 1/16-mile race, while Wine Me Up has trained as well as any horse coming into the race.

Undefeated Prince of Monaco has won his three starts by a combine 13 lengths. He won the Best Pal S. (G3) with a 103 Beyer Speed Figure, the highest of any horse in the field. The son of Speightstown is owned by a partnership headed by SF Racing LLC. He will break from post 2 and be ridden by Flavien Prat.

Muth, who was second to Prince of Monaco in the Best Pal, came back to win the American Pharoah S. (G1), his second victory in three starts. The Zedan Racing stables colt by Good Magic cost $2 million at auction. Muth has post 10 and Juan Hernandez riding.

Wine Me Up, in post 3, was a gallant second in the American Pharoah to his more experienced stablemate. A son of red-hot first-crop sire Vino Rosso, Wine Me Up is owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman. Ramon Vasquez has the return call.

The Juvenile is race 8 on Friday, with a post time of 7 pm ET.
