Baffert points Lookin at Lucky to G2 Indiana Derby

Lookin At Lucky will likely make his next start in the $500,000 Indiana Derby (G2) Oct. 2 at Hoosier Park, trainer Bob Baffert said on Sept 17.

“If Lucky works well he will start in Indiana Derby,” Baffert said. “He looks really well now and is back on track. That should set him up for the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1),” said Baffert, who trains Lookin At Lucky for owners Karl Watson, Michael Pegram, and Paul Weitman.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic will be run at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6.

Lookin At Lucky, last year’s 2-year-old Eclipse Award winning colt, is one of the top 3-year-olds of 2010, with wins in the Preakness (G1) and Haskell (G1), which followed a horrible trip and a sixth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby (G1), his only off-the-board finish in 11 career starts. He has earned $2,713,000.

Baffert plans to work Lookin At Lucky one more time at Hollywood prior to shipping to Hoosier Park a couple of days before the race. The Indiana Derby is contested at 1 1/16 miles on dirt. Baffert won the race last year with Misremembered.
