Baffert names $10.5 million colt ‘Zedan’ to honor owner’s father
Zedan Racing Stable’s OBS Sales record-breaking colt by Flightline has settled into Bob Baffert’s stable at Santa Anita Park and now has officially been named by the Hall of Fame trainer.
“He’s a specimen,” Baffert said after the colt arrived from Florida. “A man among boys. With his pedigree, you know why he cost so much.”
Baffert named the colt in honor of Amr Zedan’s father, Fareed M. Zedan.
“The two (Baffert and Fareed) hit it off wonderfully and Bob selected the name Zedan as a kind gesture to honor our family,” Amr posted on X.
Zedan the colt came to Santa Anita April 19th, following his purchase for $10.5 million at the OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training. The price was the second-highest ever paid for a 2-year-old thoroughbred in North America.
Flightline, who was undefeated in his career, was named 2022 Horse of the Year and Longines World’s Best Racehorse.
Baffert also noted that Zedan has a very good chance of shipping to his barn and Churchill Downs to run during the spring meet.
