Adare Manor earns Breeders’ Cup berth with Clement Hirsch (G1) victory

Adare Manor extended her winning streak to four straight with a one-length victory in Saturday’s $400,000 Clement Hirsch (G1) at Del Mar.

The 4-year-old Bob Baffert filly earned a free entry to this year’s Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) as part of the Breeders’ Cup “Win and You’re In” series.

Adare Manor’s current winning streak began in an allowance race in March, and now includes the Santa Maria S. (G2) and Santa Margarita S. (G2), all at Santa Anita Park.

The 1 1/16-mile Hirsch began with the speedy Elm Drive taking the lead and Adare Manor chasing her through a half-mile in :46.68. Elm Drive maintained her one-length lead around the second turn and into the stretch, and it wasn’t until the final furlong that Adare Manor asserted herself to win by a length over late-charging Desert Dawn.

“I was hoping to be on an easy lead,” said Baffert. “I knew [Elm Drive] is a really fast filly; you want to stay close to her. Sort of took our filly out of her game a little bit. [Juan Hernandez] had to keep riding her the whole way but, at the end, she’s a big, long-jumping filly and she just got going there at the end.”

Elm Drive is now 6-4-0 in 12 starts and has earned $861,600 for Michael Lund Petersen.
