Boyd an easy winner of Churchill Downs’ Ed Brown S.
Boyd handled his stakes debut Saturday at Churchill Downs with efficiency, taking the $225,000 Ed Brown S. by 2 ½-lengths and keeping the 2-year-old Bob Baffert trainee undefeated in his young career.
Named a TDN Rising Star following his debut win Sept. 7 at Del Mar, Boyd was the odds-on favorite in Saturday’s race that had only four runners following a pair of scratches. After bobbling at the start, Boyd quickly recovered and battled with Gallivant through the first half-mile. Gallivant gave way before turning into the stretch, and Boyd cleared off, finishing up in 1:15.58 on the fast track.
“He was traveling really well the entire race,” winning rider Flavien Prat said. “He took a nice breather on the backside and finished up very well. He came from a 5 ½-furlong race and it was a question if he could handle the 6 ½ furlongs today and he did.”
Owned by Zedan Racing Stables, Inc., Boyd has earned $186,500 in his two victories.
