Nysos tops Mirahmadi for 1-2 finish in San Diego H. (G2)

Nysos found a seam at the top of the stretch and ran past stablemate Mirahmadi to give Bob Baffert a one-two finish in Saturday’s $300,000 San Diego H. (G2) at Del Mar.

Nysos was making his first two-turn start since winning the 2024 Robert B. Lewis S. (G3) in February. The bay 4-year-old handled the stretchout beautifully. He tracked in third along the inside most of the way, tucked in behind Mirahmadi. Just before turning for home, Nysos was boxed in by Hall of Fame on his outside, but soon after entering the stretch, he found an opening and bounded past Mirahmadi and went on to win by about three lengths in 1:42.61 for the 1 1/16-miles on a fast track.

“He’s such a good horse, from day one he’s been very good,” said Baffert. “With what [Prat] said about the way he ran today, the Pacific Classic (at 1 ¼-miles next month at Del Mar) shouldn’t be problem.”

Owned by Baoma Corp, Nysos is now 5-1-0 in six starts and has earned $598,500. His other stakes wins came in this year’s Triple Bend (G3) and the 2023 Bob Hope S. (G3).
