Nothing Like you earned her first graded stakes win and third straight victory with a dominating performance in Saturday’s $200,000 Starlet S. (G2) at Los Alamitos.
The 2-year-old filly is Baffert’s record 10th overall winner of the Starlet; he has won the last seven runnings of the 1 1/16-mile race, which was held at Hollywood Park prior to that track’s closing in 2013.
Nothing Like You didn’t break her maiden until her first time around two turns, which was her fourth starts. She has been unbeatable since then, however, reeling off three straight wins after Saturday’s score.
Nothing Like You broke well from her inside post under Juan Hernandez and set a measured half-mile of :47.40, a length in front of Chatalas. She started to widen her margin around the turn and was never threatened in the stretch, winning by 5 ¼-lengths in 1:44.78 on a fast track.
“She was pretty fresh today because I backed off on her a bit because I’d just run her at Del Mar (Nov. 18, in the Desi Arnaz S.),” Baffert said. “Juan said she popped out of there and he said nobody wanted the lead so he just took it. Once I saw her on the backside with that long stride you could tell she was in control of the race.”
The win boosted Nothing Like You’s record to 3-1-0 in six starts. She has earned $237,160 for owners Georgia Hunt, Jeff Giglio and John Rogitz.
