Marley's Freedom prevails in Go For Wand H. (G3)
Sunday, December 2, 2018
Marley's Freedom got her fourth graded stakes win of the year in the $250,000 Go For Wand H. (G3) on Dec. 1 at Aqueduct.

The lone blemish in the Bob Baffert-trainee's past six starts came in the Breeders' Cup, when she broke last and was still only beaten a half-length in the Filly and Mare Sprint (G1). Saturday's win improved her record to 7-2-0 in 14 starts, with earnings of $815,935 for Cicero Farms.

Stretching out to a mile for the first time, Marley's Freedom was away a little slow and was fifth early on, but made her way into second after three furlongs. She forged her way to the lead midway on the turn and though she got a stiff challenge all the way to the wire from Come Dancing, she held her off by a neck to secure the win.

“Today was the first time going a mile, but she took a breath of air and once she got that second wind, she locked in and she wasn't going to let them by no matter what,” said Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith. “We could have went around there again and they weren't getting by her.”

Marley's Freedom's stakes win this year include the Ballerina (G1), Great Lady M. (G2) and Desert Stormer (G3).
