After Prayer for Relief won the $750,000 West Virginia Derby (G2) on Aug. 6 in the final few jumps (VIDEO), Bob Baffert may have another starter for the Aug. 27 Travers S. (G1) at Saratoga. Coil, who won the $1 million Haskell I. (G1) last week, is already confirmed for the race.

Baffert was at Saratoga on Saturday, so assistant Jimmy Barnes saddled Prayer for Relief at Mountaineer Park. Sent of the 6-5 favorite, the dark bay colt was third for the first six furlongs. Rafael Bejarano circled his mount three wide coming into the stretch, then wore down pacesetter Rush Now to win by a half-length. The final time for the 1 1/8 miles on a fast track was 1:50.68, netting a career-best Beyer Speed Figure of 98.

This was Baffert's second straight win in Mountaineer's marquee race; Concord Point scored for the trainer last year.

“I’ll have to wait and see how he comes out of the Mountaineer race and see how he trains at Saratoga before we make any decisions on the Travers,” Baffert said.

Prayer for Relief had a small chip removed from an ankle following his final start as a 2-year-old. Since then, he's undefeated in three starts this year, taking a Hollywood Park allowance and then the $250,000 Iowa Derby (G3) on June 25. With the $451,500 payday, his lifetime earnings now stand at $665,500 for Ahmed Zayat's Zayat Stables, LLC. Zayat purchased Prayer for Relief at Keeneland's 2009 September yearling sale for $80,000.
