Gamine powers to victory in Grade 1 Test S.

Bob Baffert's brilliant 3-year-old filly Gamine turned in another spectacular performance in Saturday’s $300,000 Test S. (G1) at Saratoga, romping by seven lengths in the seven-furlong contest.

The bay filly, owned by Michael Petersen, won the Acorn S. (G1) on June 20 and has earned $363,000 in her three wins.

Gamine has earned 50 points on the Road to the Kentucky Oaks (G1) which runs on Sept. 4. The Oaks would be her first start around two turns.

Gamine broke alertly as always from post 4 and immediately took the lead. She led through fractions of :22.70 and :45.14 with Venetian Harbor pressing along to her outside. The latter gave way in upper stretch as Gamine pulled clear with ease. Despite not being pressed for her best in the final furlong, Gamine finished the distance in 1:20.83, less than a half-second off the track record and tying for the fastest in 95 runnings of the Test.

“She’s rising straight to the top,” Baffert’s assistant, Jimmy Barnes, said. “For what she’s accomplished so far for such a lightly raced filly, we look forward to stretching her out and seeing what comes of that.”

Baffert has now won the Test on three occasions, with Contested in 2012 and Indian Blessing in 2008.
