Fed Biz's track record setting performance in the $200,000 San Diego H. (G2) Saturday at Del Mar also gave trainer Bob Baffert his first career win in the 1 1/16-mile contest for older horses that serves as a prep for the $1 million Pacific Classic (G1) on Aug. 24.

Sent right to the front by Martin Garcia, Fed Biz secured the lead going into the first turn after breaking from the outside in the field of nine. Handsome Mike made a bid for the lead at the half-way point, but Fed Biz turned him away while pulling clear around the final bend.

Kicking away at the top of the stretch, Fed Biz wasn't seriously challenged in the final quarter-mile, stopping the clock in 1:41 flat to set a new track mark, breaking Zenyatta's time of 1:41.48 (VIDEO).

As far as the Aug. 24 Classic, Baffert preferred to focus on today's result before committing to anything. “We're gonna see how he comes out of this race. That performance was incredible. He'd been working extremely well at Santa Anita. This one race I've never been able to win, so it's very emotional for me. It's so gratifying when your big horse shows up.”

Fed Biz is owned by Kaleem Shah and the Fed Biz LLC, and is now 6-1-3 in 16 outings, earning $660,496. Fed Biz also set a track record at Del Mar in 2013 when he won the seven furlong Pat O'Brien (G2).
