Faypien got the best of Noted and Quoted by about a half-length in Sunday's Angels Flight S. at Santa Anita Park to lead a 1-2 finish for Bob Baffert in the seven furlong contest for 3-year-old fillies.
Faypien, owned by Baoma Corp., had only two starts prior to Sunday, but the daughter of Ghostzapper posted a very strong 87 Beyer Speed Figure in her 4 1/4-length maiden special weight win on April 23. Noted and Quoted, meanwhile, won the Chandelier S. (G1) at two and was looking to rebound after being eased in the Sunland Park Oaks on March 26, her only start to date in 2017.
Faypien got the cleaner trip of the two Baffert runners, but earned her victory after going three-wide all the way around the turn, then holding off the fast-closing Noted and Quoted, who didn't have clear running until the final furlong.
The winning time was 1:23.21 on a fast main track.
The winner, whose first three dams are all stakes winners, was a $720,000 purchase by her owner at the 2016 OBS Spring Sale of 2-year-olds in Training.
