Executiveprivilege floats home in the Landaluce S.
Executiveprivilege asserted herself in deep stretch against seven other female opponents in the $150,000 Landaluce S. Saturday at Hollywood Park, giving her trainer Bob Baffert his third victory in the race for 2-year-old fillies.
Executiveprivilege, ridden by Rafael Bejarano, broke near the lead Saturday, but slipped back to third while well in hand around the turn. She was caught in some traffic approaching the quarter pole, but Bejarano was able to find a seam, dove to the inside and drew off easily in the final sixteenth to complete the six furlongs over Cushion Track in 1:11.49.
“As soon as we broke from the gate, I put her right behind horses and got her into a good position,’’ said Bejarano. “I knew all I had to do was wait because at the end I was going to have a lot of horse. The race was over as soon as we hit the stretch and I let her run.’’
A $650,000 purchase at a Florida sale in April by owners Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman, Executiveprivilege is 2-for-2 after her 2 ½ length win, with earnings of $120,000.
“I worked her on Monday, and she really breezed nice,” Baffert said on TVG after the race. “I told Rafael to keep her geared down, then let her run down the lane. She's pretty special.
I'm gonna get her to Del Mar and see how she moves over that track.”
Baffert said the primary goal for Executiveprivilege is the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies (G1) Nov. 2 at Santa Anita, but she could surface next in the $150,000, Grade 3 Sorrento S. Aug. 8 at Del Mar.
Baffert's other wins in the Landaluce came with Notable Career in 2000 and Hookedonthefeelin in 1998.
