Baffert's KY Oaks hopes rest with Plum Pretty
Tuesday, May 3, 2011
Bob Baffert will send out Peachtree Stable’s Plum Pretty, a 25-length winner of the Sunland Park Oaks, in an attempt to win the second Kentucky Oaks (G1) of his career. The first came in very memorable fashion with Silverbulletday in 1999. The filly was champion at both two and three and was elected to the Racing Hall of Fame in 2009.

Plum Pretty looked like a Hall of Famer with her romp at Sunland Park. Prior to that she was third in both the Las Virgenes (G1) and Santa Ynez (G2) at Santa Anita. Her overall record stands at 2-0-2, with earnings of $190,080.

Plum Pretty breezed a half-mile in :48.80 on May 2 over a sloppy track in her final breeze before the  Oaks.

“I was really with the way they went,” Baffert said. “She likes the slop. She loves that stuff.”

“The track was in pretty good shape today. We got enough rain,” Baffert said. “The last time I worked it didn’t rain enough and the track was sort of drying out heavy and mucky. I was really happy with the way they worked today because they went over it well.”

The bay filly, who will be ridden by Martin Garcia, drew post 12 of 13 for the $1 million Oaks, which goes at 5:45 p.m. ET on Friday, May 6.
