Baffert superfecta in Grade 3 Hollywood Prevue
Monday, November 26, 2012
With Bob Baffert saddling four of the five starters in the Hollywood Prevue (G3), the odds were in the trainer's favor that he would be in the winner's circle, but the prospect of taking the top four spots was a less likely proposition.

Even less likely, at least according to the betting public, was that Really Mr Greely would be the Baffert 2-year-old to get his photo taken. Sent off at 11-1, the biggest price of the Baffert quartet, Really Mr Greely, under very good handling by Julien Leparoux, led every step of the seven furlong Prevue, winning by a half-length over stablemate Super Ninety Nine in 1:22.84. Shakin It Up was another neck back in third, with Z Big Apple a length and a quarter in arrears to be fourth.

"He broke sharp," said Leparoux. "I wanted to be on the lead. He relaxed well and left me alone, which was beautiful, and when I asked him to go he answered nice.

"At the three-eighths pole, I felt they were coming at me, so I asked him to start going and he never really stopped."

Owned by Mike Pegram, Karl Watson and Paul Weitman, Really Mr Greely won for the second time in three starts. The $60,000 payday pushed his earnings to $85,620. The Prevue win came 18 days after he had defeated $100,000 maidens by 7 ½ lengths at Santa Anita.

The victory was a record sixth in the Prevue for Baffert and his second in a row, following So Brilliant’s half-length decision in 2011.
