American Pharoah takes home Horse of the Year, 3-year-old Male Eclipse Awards
Saturday, January 16, 2016
The final crowning achievement on American Pharoah’s historic racing career came on Saturday evening when the bob Baffert trainee was honored with Eclipse Awards for 2015 Horse of the Year and 3-year-old Male.

The ceremony at Gulfstream Park was filled with joy for all the connections, even if the results were hardly surprising following American Pharoah’s legendary run through the Triple Crown and culminated with his record-setting performance in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, his final race before being retired to stud.

American Pharoah, who collected Eclipse Award numbers 14 and 15 for Baffert, retired with a total of eight Grade 1 wins and earnings of $8,650,300. Besides the Triple Crown and Breeders’ Cup, Baffert conditioned American Pharoah to wins in the Del Mar Futurity (G1, where he broke his maiden in his second lifetime start), the FrontRunner S. (G1), Rebel S. (G2), Arkansas Derby (G1) and Haskell Inv. (G1).

American Pharoah is Baffert’s second horse to win Horse of the Year. Point Given achieved the feat in 2001, when he was also named 3-year-old Male champion. Three off Baffert’s Eclipse winners: Silver Charm, Silverbulletday and Point Given, are in the Racing Hall of Fame.
