Nothing Like You won the closest of head-bobs in Saturday’s $100,000 Desi Arnaz S. to give Bob Baffert his 166 lifetime stakes winner at Del Mar, far and away the most for any trainer at the historic southern California oval.

Nothing Like You, a 2-year-old daughter of Malibu Moon, needed every bit of the Del Mar stretch to get the win. Royal Slipper was all alone on the lead early, with Nothing Like You six lengths from the front on the backstretch. Tambo wrested the lead from Royal Slipper in upper stretch, with Nothing Like You bearing down in the center of the track. The bay filly surged late to win by a nose in 1:23.03 for the seven furlongs.

“I saw the (opening) fractions and thought ‘She’s gone’ (the 2-5 favorite Royal Slipper),” said Baffert. “But when that two (horse, Tambo) headed her at the top (of the stretch) you could tell (the leader) was given. Then we came running. I thought ‘There’s too much (ground to make up)’ and at the wire I wasn’t sure. But we got the bob and I’m happy.”

Nothing Like You is owned by Georgia Hunt, Jeff Giglio and John Rogitz. Saturday’s win upped her record to 2-1-0 in five starts, and earnings to $117,160.
